Systems Development & TOGAF Training
Systems Development training courses provide the knowledge required to develop efficient and effective IT solutions which match the defined requirements of an organisation. We currently operate courses across the UK, including at venues in Birmingham, Bristol, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Leeds, London and Manchester.
The courses are largely generic in content. They do not teach a specific programming language or feature specific applications but they do provide a best practice methodology which can be widely applied.
BCS Systems Development Diploma Courses
These courses are accredited by the British Computer Society (BCS) which used to be known as ISEB. BCS Systems Development training courses can take IT staff from Foundation to Diploma level certification (see BCS Certification Tracks). They range from the basics of defining business requirements through to alternative enterprise architectures. Design, implementation, change, configuration and release management are all addressed.
There are two compulsory training and certification modules required for the BCS Systems Development Diploma:
- Systems Development Essentials: Training which will help you produce systems requirements and understand common development lifecycles
- Systems Modelling Techniques: Develop models and evaluate against business objectives and systems requirements. There are "structured" and "uml" variants of this course.
These are then supplemented by a range of optional modules. You can find out about the BCS Systems Development Diploma here.
BCS Enterprise & Solutions Architecture
BCS Enterprise & Solutions Architecture training courses include the exams to achieve well respected BCS certifications. IT architects need to address integration of multiple systems, adoption of new technologies, definition of requirements, management of workflow, use of best practices and planning for the future.
The BCS Certificates in Enterprise and Solutions Architecture (formerly known as Technical Architecture Integration and Development - TAID) provide an excellent review of key frameworks, architecting techniques, inputs and deliverables, standards and tools.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I achieve the BCS Diploma in Solution Development
You need to complete a series of 4 short certification courses then take an oral exam with the BCS. See our certification tracks page for full details.
Is it cheaper to book a package of courses to obtain the Diploma?
Yes. You will significantly reduce the cost of your training and exams if you are able to book and pay for a series of modular courses in advance. Contact Focus on enquiries@focus-on-training.co.uk to find out what options are available.
TOGAF or BCS Enterprise & Solutions Architecture?
TOGAF is the most widely known enterprise architecture framework - but it is just one example. The BCS qualifications take a broader view looking at key frameworks, architecting techniques, inputs and deliverables, standards and tools. The two courses are entirely complementary.
I want to Specialise as an Enterprise Architect. What do I need?
Complete both the BCS Architecture track and TOGAF. You may also want training in ArchiMate, the popular architecture tool. Focus offers a special low price bundle: http://www.focus-on-training.co.uk/bundles/enterprise-architect/
Why is there a Foundation AND an Essentials Course?
The BCS Foundation Certificate in Systems Development is aimed at providing newcomers with an introductory overview. It is not required as a pre-requisite for other courses. The Systems Development Essentials course is one of the more advanced core modules for the BCS Diploma.
