This course will improve delegates' understanding of the coaching process, develop their coaching skills and enable them to introduce coaching back in the workplace.

Coaching is key to getting the best out of people. Knowing when to coach and how to use coaching to great effect can accelerate performance improvement. Coaching is extremely cost effective and reaps great rewards for both the coach and the coachee.

You will benefit from this course if you are a first line manager who is new to, or has limited experience of coaching.

  • How coaching compares with other systems? (What do we mean by systems - such as mentoring and counselling?)
  • The characteristics of a good coach.
  • The learning cycle and learning styles.
  • The spectrum of coaching skills.
  • What coaches do.
  • Developing the key coaching skills: building rapport, contracting, questioning and listening skills, observing and analysing, giving feedback.
  • Selecting a coaching style - the skill/will matrix.
  • The GROW model of coaching.
  • Conducting a coaching session.
  • Motivating your team.
  • Positive cycle of motivation; negative cycle of de-motivation.
  • Evaluating coaching.
