This Introduction level course will give you all the skills you need to jump-start your Power BI journey. It discusses in depth the industry-recognized steps from raw data to detailed analysis via five main stages:

  • Loading the data
  • Transformation of the data
  • Creating a comprehensive Data Model and extending the Data model with DAX
  • Visualising the data in Power BI Desktop
  • Sharing and Collaboration with the Power BI Service or Power BI Server

Throughout the course you will access data from a wide range of data sources and create Reports using the in-built visuals. You will also be shown how to format those visuals for maximum effect and how to import custom visuals to extend your reporting capability. You will gain an introduction to the M and DAX languages and then publish your masterpiece to a workspace in the Power BI Service creating Dashboards, sharing Reports and Dashboards with colleagues, concluding with scheduling a data refresh.

Key Features of this Introduction to Power BI Training:

  • After-course instructor coaching benefit
  • Hands-on labs included
  • After-course computing sandbox included
  • End-of-course exam included

What is Power BI?

Power BI is a desktop application that you can download from Microsoft. Power BI enables you to connect to your data sources, visualise the data and publish your results to either the Power BI Server or the online Software as a Service (SaaS) called Power BI Service. There are also Power BI mobile apps for iOS and Android devices.

What can I do with Power BI?

Power BI can extract data from multiple data sources, such as a database, data warehouse, excel, text files and many, many others. The different sources of data can be combined in a Data Model and consumed as though it is a single data source. You can create visualisations and reports on the data and save it to the Power BI Service where you can create Dashboards from the reports. These dashboards can then be shared with others. The Power BI Service can also keep your data up to date automatically.

Do I need a Power BI licence to attend the course?

No, all software and licences are supplied as part of the Training Course which also means you are not affecting your Organisations Power BI Infrastructure. All Reports and Dashboards will be created in the Training System which is an implementation of a live system. The Power BI licence is available to you for a period after the course has finished.
