Frequently Asked Questions

Is it important which release of the training I choose?

Always try to train on the version which you are likely to be using. Many of the differences are relatively minor but you will find it best in terms of detail and navigation to match your training to the software you will use.

Can I choose a 2013 Advanced course when I have basic knowledge at 2010?

If you are used to setting up projects using MS Project 2010 then you should have no real difficulty in jumping straight to the 2013 Advanced. It is likely that you would find the 2013 Introductory course too basic.

Why do you offer both one and two day options?

The difference between a one and two day course is simply one of pace. The longer course will give you more time to practice the skills being taught. Choose the longer courses if you have less experience or feel you would benefit from more practice.

I see a few Intermediate courses as well as Introductory & Advanced. Why?

The usual sequence is Introductory (Level1) then Advanced (Level 2). A few of our delivery partners also offer an Intermediate level. The Intermediate course is not a pre-requisite for the Advanced. Ask Focus if this is unclear.

Is there an exam at the end of the course?

No. The course will be taught by an experienced Microsoft project specialist but there is no exam.

Is MS Project Training available in house?

Alongside our range of Microsoft Project scheduled courses, we can deliver courses at your location from £150/person for up to 6 people. Laptops are also available for hire on request. Contact a member of our sales team for further information.

How many delegates can I put on an In-House course?

Where we arrange training at your premises you will usually need at least 4 delegates to make it as economic as a classroom course. Generally we recommend no more than 8 delegates in order to achieve a high level of trainer interaction.

Can you help with PCs and software for an on-site course?

Yes. For a small additional fee per person we can provide preconfigured laptops for delegates attending on-site or in-house courses.

What is Microsoft Project?

Microsoft Office Project is a member of the Microsoft Office family. It is a powerful toolkit designed to help project managers and others involved with projects. It helps you to:

  • Visualise your project plan
  • Schedule tasks and resources
  • Track tasks, duration and resources
  • Exchange project information
  • Communicate with other stakeholders
  • Control your projects

These elements correspond to all commonly used project methodologies and techniques.

Microsoft Project enables you to break down project tasks and relate them to resources and timescales in a logical manner. Information can be analysed, displayed and distributed in a variety of ways – including the ubiquitous bar (or Gantt) chart. As a project management software tool MS Project is not unique but as with other Microsoft Office programmes it has been progressively improved – and is familiar and available to a very wide audience.
