Overview

This qualification is aimed at managers, supervisors and employees who have responsibility for managing environmental issues as part of their work in the UK and internationally, focussing on assessing environmental management systems. The content includes UK, EU and international references and designed to benefit companies in all industry sectors who are seeking to implement effective environmental management systems and to provide line managers with a sound understanding of the principles of managing environmental risk.

This course takes place over a 5 day period, plus exams.

Unit EC1: Management and control of environmental hazards

  • Element 6: Control of waste and land use

  • Element 9: Planning for and dealing with environmental emergencies

EC2 - Environmental Practical Application

The practical assessment is carried out in the candidate's own workplace. The practical must be completed within 14 days of sitting the examination for the EC1 unit.

Directions:

By Road

From King's Cross, head east along Pentonville Road and turn right into Goswell Road. At the first set of traffic lights, turn left into Lever Street. Thistle City Barbican is at the junction with Central Street. To programme your sat-nav, please use the postcode EC1V 8DS.

By Rail

Take the Underground to Old Street or Barbican stations. From Old Street, take Exit 4, turn left up the slope, walk along Old Street and turn right into Bath Street. After 150 yards, turn left into Lever Street and you will find the hotel 150 yards on your right.From Barbican, turn left and walk along Goswell Road. At the next set of traffic lights, turn right into Old Street. Turn left into Central Street and you will find the hotel on your right

From the Airport

London Heathrow: Follow signs for the Underground Piccadilly Line and ride it to Kings Cross, switch to the Northern line toward Morden and exit at Old Street. The hotel is then a ten-minute walk away.
London Gatwick: Take the Gatwick Express to London Victoria, switch to the Underground Victoria line toward Walthamstow Central, then change at Euston station to the Piccadilly line, getting off at Old Street.

Candidates are assessed by a two hour written examination for unit EC1 and a practical examination for unit EC2. Candidates need to pass both units within a two-year period. A unit certificate is issued denoting successful achievement of each unit. A certificate award parchment is issued on completion of both units.

Unit EC1 is a taught unit assessed by a two-hour written examination taken on the final day of the course.

The examination consists of ten ‘short-answer’ questions and one ‘long-answer’ question. All questions are compulsory.   Candidate scripts are marked by external examiners appointed by NEBOSH.

Unit EC2 requires the candidate to carry out an environmental review of a workplace or organisation and produce a justified action plan to improve performance.  The practical application is internally assessed by the course provider and externally moderated by NEBOSH.
