Course Content

The PRINCE2 Foundation course uses unique multimedia case-studies and accelerated-learning techniques to ensure that theory is embedded and delegates feel confident in the practical application of PRINCE2. Additional evening work will be required in the form of consolidation reading and mock examination questions. The evening work is an integral part of the course and delegates should expect to spend approximately two hours on these activities.

The course will cover the following syllabus areas:

PRINCE2 Overview

Delegates are introduced to the world of projects and project management and to the overall structure of the PRINCE2 method. The benefits of adopting a formal project management method will also be outlined.

PRINCE2 Principles

PRINCE2 operates with a universal set of principles that can be applied to every project. These seven principles provide the framework of good practice upon which PRINCE2 is based.

  • Continued business justification
  • Learn from experience
  • Defined roles and responsibilities
  • Manage by stages
  • Manage by exception
  • Focus on products
  • Tailor to suit the project environment

PRINCE2 Themes

The seven PRINCE2 themes are aspects of the project that must be continually addressed and linked together in order for the project to be delivered effectively.

  • Business Case
  • Organisation
  • Quality
  • Plans
  • Risk
  • Change
  • Progress

PRINCE2 Processes

The seven PRINCE2 processes define the activities that are required to direct, manage and deliver the project successfully. The following processes run from pre-project, through initiation and delivery, up to and including project closure.

  • Starting up a Project
  • Directing a Project
  • Initiating a Project
  • Controlling a Stage
  • Managing Product Delivery
  • Managing a Stage Boundary
  • Closing a Project
Throughout the course, delegates will be exposed to numerous examples of examination questions. We will undertake a number of exercises and 'question-and-answer' sessions that will help to consolidate the learning, thereby ensuring that delegates are more than adequately prepared for both examinations.

Attend From Anywhere

Description:

Extended Classroom: an innovative approach to learning

Our ‘Attend from Anywhere’ courses allow you to access award-winning classroom training without leaving your home or office. We use GoToMeeting video conferencing software by Citrix. Before you book you should:

  • check to ensure you meet the GoToMeeting system requirements
  • run a test meeting to ensure the software is compatible with your firewall settings (if this link doesn’t work you should adjust your settings or contact your IT department about permitting the website)
  • make sure you have a compatible webcam if you are doing any ITIL or BCS Specialist exams, as visual ID checks will be required (click here to test if your hardware is compatible)

What will it be like?

One week before the course starts we will send out the equipment you need in the post (headset and manuals) and contact you to test everything is working.
  1. Just before the course begins you will be able to launch the software, dial-in to the classroom and familiarise yourself with the interface and how the virtual interactions work.
  2. The course will be split into multiple sessions, with short breaks in between so you can stay focussed and refreshed.
  3. Throughout the course the learning professional will use an electronic whiteboard, which will transmit all the notes directly to your screen.
  4. You can ask the learning professional a question at any time, either by simply speaking aloud through your microphone or by clicking the virtual ‘raise-a-hand’ button on the interface.
  5. Towards the end of the course there will be plenty of time for detailed Q&As with the learning professional, just as if you were physically in the classroom.
  6. Following the course you will be asked to complete a course evaluation form, which will allow you to give detailed feedback on your experience and help us to make future improvements.
  7. For four weeks after the course has finished you will have on-demand access to helpful videos on the subject matter, and we may send you useful emails reminding you of the ‘Key Learning Points’.

Frequently asked questions

What equipment do I need for Attend from Anywhere course?

You will need an internet-connected computer and a microphone to interact with the trainer. Two monitors are recommended; one to stream the video from the classroom and the other to display the interactive interface.

How reliable are Attend from Anywhere courses?

We use leading Citrix technology and our classrooms are specifically optimised to improve sound quality for remote attendees. We also send out the equipment you need in the post (headset and manuals) and contact you to test everything is working a week before the course starts.

Will the remote attendees feel excluded?

Our trainers are specially trained on how to interact with remote attendees and our technology allows them to take over remote PCs. Our remote labs ensure all participants can take part in hands-on class exercises wherever they are.

It is too expensive

Feedback we receive is that organisations and individuals actually save money by booking this type of course when they factor in the costs associated with in-person training such as travel costs and expenses such as hotels, food and childcare.

How do I take the exam remotely?

You can take your exam via the Proctor U online exam body. You need to book it before the course begins and switch on a webcam to enable invigilation and show photo ID.

You will be provided with pre-course reading prior to attending the course. This pre-reading is interactive eLearning and is expected to take approximately two hours to complete - this is only a guide and you may wish to spend longer on this activity to help you prepare effectively. Your learning starts with this pre-reading, so please ensure you can complete the pre-course activities in full prior to attending.

Pre-reading can be accessed through both Windows and Apple Macintosh devices (Windows XP or higher; Mac OS X 10 or higher).

Network/Internet connection: 4Mb (megabits) or above.
