BCS Data Analysis

Our Data Analysis course covers the key approaches to analysing and modelling data: entity relationship modelling, analysis class modelling and normalisation of data.
Key areas of the course include: 
  • Building entity relationship diagrams
  • Developing analysis class models
  • Normalisation of data 
  • Validating the data requirements
The course covers approaches to analysing and modelling data that reflect the business users' needs and priorities. It also provides an overview of the more mechanistic approach offered by normalisation, and then explores techniques to validate the views of the data against the stated requirements.
This course enables participants to work towards SFIA skills DTAN levels 2 and 3.

Learning Objectives

This course prepares participants to sit the examination leading to the BCS Professional Certificate in Data Analysis which is held on the final afternoon of the course.

Course Content

The course takes place over 2 days. Refreshments and lunch are provided free of charge to participants. 
Day 1 - 09:30 start / 17:00 finish
  •     Data analysis for business analysts    
  •     Principles of data analysis concepts
  •     Entity relationship diagrams 
  •     Types of relationships 
  •     Documenting entities, attributes, relationships and domains
Day 2 - 09:00 start / 17:00 finish
  •     Analysis class modelling 
  •     Normalisation of data
  •     Building a normalised data model
  •     Validating the data requirements

Exams & Certification

This certification assesses knowledge and understanding of data analysis, modelling and validation techniques, and their application when analysing business data.

Exam Format:

  • 90 minute ‘closed book’
  • 40 multiple choice questions
  • Pass mark is 75%

Pre-Reading

A student manual, containing information about data modelling techniques and providing references for further reading, is supplied as part of the course.
