NOW IS THE TIME to get your IT and Data security in order!

Following the unprecedented worldwide Malware attacks of the Ransomware called WannaCry over the past few days, now is the time to get your IT and Data Security in order.

  • 150 countries attacked from China to Russia, US to the UK and everywhere in between.
  • The NHS in the UK alongside Nissans car plant, Telefonica in Spain, Germany’s rail network Deuthche Bahn, FedEx in the US, Renault factories shut down in France and even Russia’s Interior Ministry all caught by the malware.
  • Over 200,000 computers affected.
  • Europol (European Union Agency for Law Enforcement Cooperation) reporting that this could just be the start of a series of attacks and ever growing sophistication by Hackers.

The numbers speak for themselves and the cost of repair running in to millions let alone the disruption to key services.

This, following news that 26,000 customers of Debenhams Flowers website had their personal data accessed or stolen in April.

It is not just the big brands who are being targeted.

The Information Commissioner’s Office has reinforced the need for every business to adhere to data protection regulations after slapping a £55,000 fine on an online building products supplier after it failed to protect its customers’ personal information with Hackers accessing personal details including card details, account numbers and security codes.

Further, now just a year away, we have reported previously the need for all businesses to get to grips with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) which comes in to effect on 25th May 2018 and sees potential fines for breach rising greatly to possible €20m or 4% of an organisation’s annual worldwide turnover.

Yet, despite this, research in the past week by XpertHR suggests that HR professionals do not have a good understanding of the regulation with 51% describing their understanding as low and 45% having just some understanding. See previous article here
