Children Enjoy Local Environmental Centre thanks to FOCUS
Cambridge Environmental Education Service runs centres which provide inspirational learning experiences for children. Local schools in less affluent areas do not visit due to cost constraints. Project Management and IT training specialist FOCUS on TRAINING has come to the rescue.
Two groups of children from schools in Peterborough have benefited from residential courses at an environmental education centre, thanks to a bursary provided by specialist training company Focus On Training.
Stibbington Centre, close to Focus’ Werrington, Peterborough base, uses specialist resources and locations which bring learning to life. Access to rivers and streams, nature reserves and farms – plus imaginatively designed play and study areas – provide a ‘hands-on’ learning experience that increases environmental understanding in a way not possible in the classroom.
Focus Managing Director Steve Twine explains, “We wanted to contribute to the community in a way that would clearly make a difference, and Stibbington provides an experience that the children will never forget.”
Stibbington head Rosie Edwards says, “The residential courses encourage sustainable lifestyle choices, and help develop social skills and independence, as well as fulfilling curriculum requirements in geography, science and history.”
Pupils from St John’s, Orton and Highlees primary schools in Peterborough have spent three days at Stibbington thanks to the Focus On Training Bursary.
Stibbington Centre would be delighted to hear from other companies interested in sponsoring residential courses.
